Churched or Unchurched

June 21, 2017

Be careful about the doctrine of categorizing people into the “churched” or the “unchurched”. Lest not forget, we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, even if we never set foot in a church building (Acts 15:11, Ephesians 2:8).

Being unchurched does not mean a person is marked for damnation, and neither does being churched mean a person’s name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

If that ruffled your feathers, just think about Judas who spent about four years getting “discipled” by the best teacher, the Good Shepherd (Jesus), and look how things turned out for him.

Many unsaved people have been going to church faithfully, and even though they are "churched" because they have a relationship with the church, they do not have a relationship with Christ. A potential indicator of that is a person who reaches out to others for prayer during times of adversity instead of first praying (and possibly fasting) to personally seek the Lord. Also, among the churched are devils. It is not simply a colloquial that devils go to church too.

Church never saved anyone from hell, and neither has a minister, but Christ has saved many people and only He still can. Many of the churched have simply learned human traditions. For example, during praise and worship, their hands automatically go up, and sometimes tears flow down. Yet, the Lord may not be impressed with their “praise and worship”, and the churches will find out when He searches their hearts and rewards them according to their deeds (Revelation 2:23). The Lord is more focused on our hearts instead of outward appearance and gestures (1 Samuel 16:7).

If you have made it this far, and you’re wondering why I am not pointing people to church, well, my responsibility is to point people to Christ. If you have disregarded everything I have been inspired to communicate thus far, do not do the same with the following:

• ‘Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, ‘This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoureth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from Me. But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.’ ~ Jesus (Matthew 15:7-9 (KJV) [By the way, these were some of the Words the Lord shared with me in a church one day as they marched around the church during praise and worship.]

• ‘But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.’ ~ Jesus (Matthew 23:13-15 (KJV) [Ensure you do not become a churched child of hell.]

• “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.” ~ 1 Timothy 4:1-3 (KJV) [So why do some churches prohibit members of their clergy from getting married?]

• “And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him: rooted and built up in Him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” ~ Colossians 2:4-8 (KJV)
